Herpe: Fully Loaded is the second episode of season one of Future Man. It aired November 14, 2017, along with the rest of season one.

Summary[]

Having jumped back to 1969, Tiger, Wolf, and Josh head to the party at the California Institute of Technology where Dr. Kronish first contracted herpes. They’re immediately thrown out of the party thanks to Wolf, so Josh has to go in alone disguised as Lamar Price, one of the other fraternity members who had been wearing a spacesuit and opaque helmet. Meanwhile, Tiger and Wolf build a barricade outside of the fraternity house, holding off both the police and the biker group they antagonized previously. The bikers and police end up fighting each other and Josh successfully cockblocks Kronish. The trio returns to 2017 to find their plan did not work; Kronish still has herpes and is researching the cure at Kronish Laboratories.

Synopsis[]

After fleeing the diner where Josh accidentally fired a gun and Wolf killed a police officer, the trio stops at a gas station to recuperate. Josh explains that killing people is wrong and convinces his new allies to pursue a non-violent approach to stopping the Kronish from researching the cure. He reasons that if they stop Kronish from contracting herpes, he will not become a scientist, and then the cure will never have existed, and subsequently the Biotics will not exist.

Wolf is not on board with the non-violent approach, but Tiger tells him to trust Josh. Wolf storms off and wrecks the convenience store in frustration and the owner, Rick, mistakes Wolf as one of the Double Damned because of the stolen bikes outside and the outfit he’s wearing. Since Wolf does not know the biker group’s handshake, Rick realizes the trio are the same people that attacked and stripped the Double Damned earlier. Wolf breaks Rick’s fingers before they leave, and Rick contacts the Double Damned about the stolen bikes. Meanwhile, Tiger harasses a woman and her baby, causing her to call the police.

The trio heads to the California Institute of Technology fraternity party where Kronish first contracted herpes from Barbarella. Upon entering, the trio realizes the entire fraternity party is made up of black students, and they do not fit in here; however, the fraternity welcomes them in for a beer. That is, until Wolf makes a racist comment (he is talking about the Biotic race, but it is 1969 so his comment is understandably not taken that way), and they are thrown out of the party.

Needing another way to cockblock Kronish and Barbarella, Josh finds Lamar Price unconscious outside and steals his clothes, since Lamar had been wearing a spacesuit, complete with an opaque helmet that would hide his face. Josh sneaks into the party and gets into a dance-fight with Kronish, successfully cockblocking Kronish when he wins the dance-off.

While Josh is inside, Tiger and Wolf build a wall of garbage around the perimeter of the fraternity house. The police arrive on the scene and mistake it as a hostage situation. The pair buy time by making random demands of the police under the guise of negotiation. The Double Damned arrive soon after that, demanding the police hand over Tiger and Wolf. When they refuse, the Double Damned start a fight with the police.

A small group of officers, including Vincent Skarsgard (who was one of the cops in the police car Wolf blew up in “Pilot”), break away from the fighting to go after Tiger and Wolf. Their advances are unsuccessful, and Tiger slashes Skarsgard across the face.

The noise from the fighting outside causes the party to pause briefly. It also wakes Lamar up, and when he goes inside, people realize that Josh in the spacesuit is not actually Lamar. They take the helmet off and recognize Josh from earlier, so Josh runs away upstairs.

From the window on the second floor, Josh catches Tiger and Wolf’s attention and tells him that he successfully cockblocked Kronish. They fire up the TTD as Josh jumps out the window, and travel back to 2017 together. A bus advertisement reveals that Kronish still has herpes and is researching the cure at Kronish Laboratories just as before.

  • Cultural References[]

    • Upon hearing the Tiger and Wolf were sterilized with nano-mist, Josh references the movie Children of Men.
    • Josh cites having seen the movie Animal House as making him an expert on frat parties.
    • The song “Candles on the Cake” by Mark G Hart & Stephen Emil Dudas is playing as the trio enters the frat house the first time.
    • Josh is referred to as Colonel Sanders several times because of the white suit he wears for the first half of the episode.
    • After stealing a spacesuit costume, Josh says, “Houston, we have a solution,” playing off of the popularly quoted phrase, “Houston, we have a problem.” Tiger and Wolf do not get this reference.
    • Josh does a terrible Bill Cosby impression.
    • The name of the woman who gives Kronish herpes, Barbarella, may be a reference to the film by the same name.
    • Josh sees Barbarella and Kronish together and says, “oh shit, dirty dancing,” which is likely a reference to the movie by the same name.
    • The song “Whipping Post” by The Allman Brothers Band plays as Tiger and Wolf fend off the small group of cops that break away from the large fight to come after the pair.
    • Footage of the moon landing from 1969 is shown again on a television set.
    • Several dance movies, both from the 1960s and from as late as 2017 are performed and referenced by name. Most notably is when Josh thanks Michael Jackson before doing the moonwalk while making the famous “hee-hee” sound. Shortly after, one of the party-goers calls Tito Jackson saying he has a new dance move idea for Michael, implying that Josh is the reason Michael Jackson ever performed the moonwalk in the first place.
